About us

Rooted in heritage. Growing together.

Founded in 2024, we are a volunteer-led community creating connection, confidence and belonging for Filipino-Australians across Northwest Tasmania.

Our story

Home is something we build together.

Our community grew from a simple idea: that familiar faces, shared language and cultural traditions can make a new place feel like home.

Today, we bring families, individuals and friends together through celebrations, sport, food and practical community connection—while sharing Filipino culture with the wider Tasmanian community.

Our journey

Growing together since 2024.

2024

Where our story began

The Northwest Tasmania Filipino-Australian Community began in 2024. Our first official event was a Filipino-style Christmas party at Smithton Senior Citizens Hall, where around 200 people gathered to celebrate. Jeric and Shyra Vidal organised the event with support from the Ramos family.

2025

A growing Christmas celebration

Our second Christmas celebration was held at East Devonport Primary School Hall and welcomed around 300 people. More community members joined the planning and preparation, with the Vidal and Ramos families supported by committee leaders Mary Jane Holden, Kim Caballero, Eyah Hearps, Marni Amuno and Roger Cabbab.

2026

Celebrating Philippine independence

The community then came together at the Ulverstone Rowing Club for the 128th Philippine Independence Day celebration. Around 300 people shared a memorable day of Filipino culture, performance and food. New committee leaders James and Rosalinda Blenkhorn, Mary Joy Caballero and Monet Zanus were introduced.

Every Saturday

Community sport that keeps us connected.

With the community’s continued support, our sports coordinators organise badminton and basketball socials every Saturday morning and evening. The program is led by Kim and Mary Joy Caballero, together with Jam and Reylyn Roxas.
